NASA Spotlights Moon Base at 2026 FIRST Robotics
NASA connected directly with the future workforce at the event, engaging more than 51,000 students, parents, and mentors through interactive exhibits and discussions. The agency highlighted its plan to construct a permanent lunar outpost – Moon Base – that will serve as a hub for lunar exploration, scientific research, and technology demonstration, laying the foundation for future missions to Mars and beyond.
-
Active Listening: Good science communication with visitors means explaining complex topics at their knowledge level and adding understanding about NASA's value to their lives. At this event, we talked with thousands of students about internship opportunities and how to work for NASA.
-
Interactive Experiences: Our selfie station provided "sticky marketing" for the event. Visitors were able to capture a selfie with a fun Moon Base or Artemis themed virtual background and text the image to themselves. In addition to the image, the text included a website link to learn more about NASA's missions and science.
Sharing Native Texas Species
When I worked with The Urban Interface, I carefully presented native Texan species, both reptiles and birds, at public programs, ensuring the animal's safety and a positive interaction for the guest. Here, I'm holding Toro, a bull snake ambassador.
-
Interactive Experiences: Guests were able to gently pet reptiles in our care. For many, this was their first positive experience with a snake. Often they would ask questions about the animal and where it could be found near them.
-
Curiosity and Wonder: Many people living in suburban and urban areas do not have the chance to interact with nature or native animals from their ecosystem. Introducing the animals in a safe context allowed them to better understand the natural world around them, and gave us the opportunity to talk about why these species are important.

Guiding Principles for Outreach Activities
Active Listening
I prioritize empathetic dialogue that centers around the learner's existing knowledge and cultural context to build meaningful connections.
Curiosity and Wonder
By framing scientific milestones as scientists unfolding the universe, I can help turn the awe from passive observers into lifelong learners.
Interactive Experiences
Leveraging hands-on activities and digital storytelling gives learners the agency to experiment, play, and discover the universe for themselves.
